Van Cleef & Arpels / Daniel Brush, the Art of Line and Light

Daniel Brush (1947-2022) embodies a rare approach to creation. Sculptor, draughtsman, philosopher, goldsmith and jeweller, this self-taught American artist spent his life pushing at the boundary between art and jewellery. The exhibition at L'École des Arts Joailliers, curated by his wife Olivia Brush and jewellery historian Vivienne Becker, unveils for the first time over 75 unpublished pieces that have left his New York studio. From 8 June to 4 October 2026, the Hôtel de Mercy-Argenteau in Paris hosts this exceptional monograph.

Photographing Daniel Brush's work means entering a dialogue between line and light. Every piece demands particular attention: the way the metal catches and returns the light, details invisible to the naked eye, the tension between rawness and precision that defines Brush's work. This reportage was carried out across the whole exhibition, from the main rooms to the details of every display case. One of the photographs from this series was selected by the Financial Times to illustrate the Opening Shot feature in the Life&Arts section — a recognition that speaks to the quality of the eye brought to this body of work.
